Performed 16th January 2020 at the University of Chichester (duration 30 minutes) and 19th November 2022 at The Dance Space in Brighton

Inviting Impermanence is an immersive and improvised performance art event that encourages participants, alongside a movement companion, to reflect on life experiences and to contemplate impermanence. These memories and aspirations are then interpreted by a movement companion and represented through improvised dance. Involving scripted commentary, poetry, movement and drawing, this work invites participants to immerse themselves in a reflective and personal experience.

Feedback from one participant:

“Very poignant, it made me feel emotional but joyous”

Technical and practical information

This installation would be suitable for festivals, conferences or exhibitions, that explore themes of transcience, life journeys, identity, and impermanence.

The work can be installed in any suitable space, including outside, with minimum dimensions of sixty metres squared. The sound is on one continuous track that can be played through portable speakers, or if performed outside, participants could download the track and use headphones to improve sound quality.

The piece involves using large rolls of recycled paper that are drawn on by participants, then later manipulated by the movement companions to create pathways.
